The Pacific Chieftan was due for a 25 year survey and port side engine replacment to match the starboard side which was replaced approx 2 years earlier.
P&W along with Diverse Engineering in Nelson and Action
engineering in Dunedin made up the team involved with a
complete rebuild of the port side engine bed of the Pacific Chieftan and worked exclusively
on night shift to get the job done.
The engine bed made up a large proportion of the fuel, lubrication and salt water brine tanks. The engine bed itself was two 3.5 meters long by 600mm wide by 80mm thick plates, which all had to be lowered along with the floor under the engine by 600mm to accomodate the new engine.
